Barkway is a picturesque village with a population of around 800 residents and boasts all the hallmarks of a traditional village.

The church has a full peal of 8 bells which are rung every week, there is a traditional public house, a recreation ground with children's play area and football pitches, and many active social organisations.

Birch Meadow is ideally located for commuting into London. The development is approximately 5 miles from Royston train station, which offers a regular train service directly into London Kings Cross in less than 40-minutes. The development is also ideally located for travelling to Cambridge and surrounding towns.

Barkway has a vibrant community and the local village hall holds a variety of weekly activities from bowls and a toddler group to zumba, pilates and karate for all ages.  The village hall also doubles up as a picture house, showing films on the last Saturday of each month.

The Barkway Players perform a musical pantomime every year in the village hall and are always looking for new members, whether actors or backstage folk.  Alongside the adults, a lively junior cast always plays a prominent part in the annual show.

Barkway village market is an annual event and attracts visitors from miles around.  The market raises funds for several local charities.

The nearest GP surgery is located in Royston High Street just 2.1 miles from Barkway and the closest pharmacy is 3.9 miles away.  Royston Hospital is 4.1 miles from the development and there are numerous dentists in the surrounding area.

Royston train station is only 4.9 miles from the development providing direct train services into London Kings Cross with a journey time on the fastest trains of less than 40 minutes, and direct train services into Cambridge with a journey time of less than 20 minutes.
