Moving into any home is an exciting prospect but with a new build, the opportunities to incorporate your personality through interior design are endless. The well-known ‘blank canvas’ of a new build home can be as wonderful as it is daunting and for many, the question is where to begin?
Our show homes are instrumental in helping people imagine their lives at Bidwell Mews. This was true for Julie, who has recently moved into The Adams house type, a three-bedroom semi-detached home. She comments: “I loved the show home and between my first visit and completion day, I visited many times. I was so inspired by the interior design that I’ve copied some of the looks – if someone came to my house, they might think they were in the show home!”
Abode Interiors, designers of The Adams show home, comment: “This design prioritises versatility, accommodating working from home and interesting storage solutions. We wanted the show home to feel young at heart but still have a strong feeling of quality and a focus on interesting design.”
Just as Julie was inspired by our show homes, we were inspired by her story and have collated our best tips for getting the show home look.
Clutter-free but homely
Kitchens must be streamlined to work efficiently in a busy household so it’s important to have a clean and organised feel. Keep the counters free of clutter and use abstract shelving units to hold recipe books, vases and condiments.
The dining area is the perfect place to add some beautiful decorative items and create a welcoming and relaxed feel. Different colours help us feel different emotions, such as a calming blue or natural green. Throughout the show home, elements of yellow were incorporated in furniture, wall paint and styling items encouraging feelings of happiness and excitement. In the dining area, mustard-coloured chairs gave a vibrant pop to the space and nicely complemented the natural materials.

Versatility is key
The living room is often a flexible space where homeowners spend a lot of their quiet time, as well as enjoying time with friends and family. Encourage socialising by placing seating in a specific way, such as sofas facing each other. Additional finishes and furniture including art work and a bespoke wooden media unit add a homely feel.
The current trend of ‘zoning’ means you can section a corner of the lounge to create a work from home hub. Include shelves filled with useful but also aesthetic items to let the space easily blend in with the rest of the room.

Bright bathrooms
Many people shy away from adding colour to their bathrooms, opting for a neutral, clean look. However, our show home bathrooms are anything but minimal, with vibrant colours, textured wallpaper and indoor foliage. Don’t let your bathroom miss out on your creativity, and instead, incorporate a daring colour scheme or adventurous pattern.

Let your imagination run wild
Bedrooms are arguably the most important room to get your interior design spot on; it’s your sanctuary, your peaceful escape after a long day and the place where you can enjoy alone time. The three bedrooms in The Adams show home demonstrate how different ages and personalities can be expressed through design, from an animal-themed child’s room to a sophisticated mature space. The best part? They can be adapted as your interests and styles develop.
